Hoodia
What is Hoodia ?
The heralded south African cactus featured on "60 Minutes", "The Today Show", and in Oprah's "O Magazine" is probably the new miracle supplement for safe, effective weight loss for everyone wanting to lose weight.Hoodia gordonii (Hoodia) is an all-natural appetite suppressant known for having no side effects or conflicts that are associated with other weight-loss products.
How Hoodia Works.
It essentially suppresses the appetite by tricking the brain into thinking that you're full when you're not: Scientists explain that the active ingredient in Hoodia works within the hypothalamus, the satiety center of the brain, by releasing a chemical compound similar to glucose, only much stronger. The hypothalamus receives this signal as an indication that enough food has been consumed and therefore suppresses the appetite.

AGE AND BEHAVIOR: PERSONALITY AND COGNITION IN CAUTIOUS BEHAVIOR - FACTORS RELATED TO CAUTIOUSNESS - ABILITY
Cautiousness and cognitive ability seem to be related. Cognitive ability as measured cross-sectionally declines with age. This decline of ability, however, is not equal along all dimensions. The differential decline with age of intelligence test functions. It is the very type of abilities examined in this chapter which undergo the greatest age changes—the functions which have been described as perceptual integrative, involving speed of response. On the other hand, verbal abilities and stored information decline least, if at all, with age.
Edwards and Wine (1963) gave an intelligence test which measures functions declining with age (the Raven Progressive Matrices), and they also gave a personality questionnaire (Comrey Personality Inventory). These two tests were given to men of a wide age range, patients in a VA hospital. Cautiousness, among other characteristics, was found to increase with age, and intelligence to decrease; but, when intelligence levels were matched for the men of different ages, cautiousness was no longer seen as age-related. Edwards and Wine concluded that cautiousness in later life was a function of intellectual decline. As in the discussion of rigidity in the two previous chapters, a reverse conclusion is also possible: Older men were lower in intelligence as a result of their cautiousness, not the other way around. Either interpretation is equally tenable from the study.
Verbal ability was also seen related to cautiousness. Wallach and Kogan (1961) observed that vocabulary test scores and an index of cautiousness were correlated in much the same way as observed by Edwards and Wine. High verbal intelligence was seen with low cautiousness, and vice versa.
